B B Eye Foundation welcomes Ophthalmologists from India and around the world to observe and learn from our renowned consultants at our world class centre where tradition meets Technology with Timeless trust, over generations

Overview

This is a week long observership programme, with insight into a mixed group practice. Participants will observe how to manage and treat complex ophthalmic cases in the subspecialities of cataract glaucoma, medical retina and vitreoretina, as well as understand patient counselling and management in given circumstances

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Insight into daily OPD, patient management and patient counselling over a variety of settings – private practice, institutional practice and solo practice.
  2. Observation of routine and complex cataract, glaucoma and vitreoRetinal cases over a variety of settings – with different microscopes, phaco machines and instruments.
  3. Insight and understanding of laser procedures, printout reports of various new diagnostic machines,biometry, IOL power calculation and choice of IOL in different situations with special focus on Premium IOLs.

About Dr Chandrima Paul:

One of the first in India to be awarded PhD in Ophthalmology, from the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Medical College, Kolkata. Awarded FRCS by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. Underwent training at the Cataract & Refractive Service of the Oregon Eye Centre at Eugene in the USA, under the world renowned Ophthalmologist- Dr Howard Fine. Trained at the Glaucoma Service, Moorfields Eye Hospital, London,UK . Recipient of the D B Chandra Award AIOS 2006( National award for Glaucoma by the AIOS). Recipient of the B K Mitra Award 2006(Highest State award by the Ophthalmological Society of West Bengal). Awarded IIRSI (Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India) Gold medal 2021. Glaucoma Award from Women Ophthalmologists Society,2021. Chief Instructor, Chairperson, and Faculty at World Glaucoma Congresses. Speaker at glaucoma sessions of American Academy of Ophthalmology &European Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery. Examiner for FRCS Glasgow Ophthalmology Examinations Versatile Surgeon - performing Live surgeries to train young Ophthalmologists at various forums. Conducted the Hooghly River Glaucoma Study as Principle Investigator – the largest glaucoma prevalence study published till date. Principle Investigator for Multinational Phase III trials for Anti Glaucoma drugs and newer surgical tools.

About Dr. Anujeet Paul:

Dr. Anujeet Paul is a trained cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon, with expertise in performing complex cataract surgeries, especially ones with vitreoretinal interventions. He is also one of the youngest surgeons to perform live cataract surgery on a national platform. His cataract surgery(Phacoemulsification) skill is remarkable, being one of the fastest phaco surgeons in the national arena. He is an Assistant Professor at Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, where he trains MS postgraduates in both theatre and out patient and Visiting Consultant at B R Singh Railway Hospital where he trains DNB postgraduates. He has published 35 PubMed indexed publications and 2 book chapters and is on the editorial board of various journals of national repute.Recipient of the D B Chandra Award AIOS 2006( National award for Glaucoma by the AIOS). Schedule:

One week observation programme from 9AM to 6PM from Monday to Saturday. Observers will get to observe various types of practice patterns at the mother centre and at various category hospitals around the city.

Monday

9AM – Report at B B Eye Foundation for orientation.
10AM-12PM – OPD / OT observation at a teaching Institute.
12PM-4PM – OPD / OT at B B Eye Foundation, mother centre
4PM-6PM – OPD at B B Eye Foundation, branch centre/ discussion and review.

Tuesday

9-12PM – Report at a Charitable Eye Hospital for OPD / OT.
12-4PM – Discussion and review / OPD at B B Eye Foundation.
4-6PM – OPD at branch centre / discussion and review.

Wednesday

9-4PM – OPD + training OT at B B Eye Foundation.
4-6PM – OPD at branch centre / discussion and review.

Thursday

9-11AM – OPD at a teaching Institute.
11-4PM – OT at B B Eye Foundation.
4-6PM – OPD at branch centre / discussion and review.

Friday

9-4PM – OPD at B B Eye Foundation.
4-6PM – OPD at branch centre / discussion and review.

Saturday

9-12PM – OT at a Teaching Hospital.
12-6PM – OPD at B B Eye Foundation + review.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. The programme is from 9AM to 6PM from Monday to Saturday. Transportation during that period will be provided, however pick-up or drop at 9AM or 6PM will not be provided.
  2. Local accommodation during the observation period will not be provided.
  3. If certain competency is shown during the observership, certain hands-on procedures will be given
  4. Observers may join in and leave on any day of the observership as per their convenience but the charges for the programme will remain the same.
  5. The patient inflow, OT observation opportunities vary according to time of the year, local festivals and national holidays and is out of control of the observership programme.
